Position Summary: The position is fully funded by a recent award from the NIH. The successful candidate will work under the guidance Dr. Edward P. DeMauro (PI). We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher to lead efforts in designing, testing, and translating a novel device for rapidly sensing of SARS-CoV-2 or other viruses from patients' exhaled breath. The end goal of this project is the creation of a fully functional physical prototype. The device will utilize a novel, patented, liquid-based filtration technique to capture particles and/or sputum for rapid assessment of viral load. At its core, the mechanical challenge is fundamentally a multiphase fluid flow problem, encompassing concepts associated with: (1) inlet nozzle design and optimization; (2) multiphase gas-liquid interactions and transport; (3) filtration design and testing. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team, required to interact with colleagues from the Rutgers University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering to ensure a useful, practical final product. For this project, we are looking for a self-motivated, independent individual who can produce on a tight schedule with minimal supervision. Previous experience with design, machining, and experimental setup/troubleshooting are highly desired. Minimum Education and Experience: Candidate should have strong background in mechanical engineering design, testing, and troubleshooting. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to be independent, working under minimal supervision, while producing under a tight schedule Minimum Requirements: 1.Highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, or in a similar engineering field. 2.Published/accepted journal papers. 3.Experimental research background in fluid dynamics 4.Excellent written and oral communication skills. Previous experience with design, machining, and experimental setup/troubleshooting are highly desired. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Expertise in using scientific cameras. High-level of proficiency with LabVIEW and Matlab Machine-shop experience High-level of proficiency with Solid Works, NX, or another 3D CAD program Experience with microfluidics is a plus but not a requirement. Experience with medical devices is a plus but not a requirement.Posting Number: 21FA0122 Location: Busch (RU-New Brunswick) |
