The Impact You'll Make in this Role

Sterilization test vessels are tightly controlled sterilizers intended to test and/or release biological and chemical indicators for our Device Reprocessing business. As a Sr. Software Development Engineer in the Quality organization, you will have the opportunity to collaborate cross-functionally on a unique and diverse product platform in a dynamic, high growth 3M Medical Device Business. Your focus will be to independently maintain and develop new functionality on existing sterilization vessel platforms while working to implement new software solutions on new technology.

Here, you will make an impact by:

• Planning, designing, developing code and test software systems or applications for software enhancements on new and legacy systems. Strong understanding of the structure and logic of object-oriented programming.
  • Completing development of Visual Studio project for new sterilizer system
  • Leading Visual Studio software reviews, documenting findings, and making applicable code updates after reviews
  • Revising and refining system performance
• Developing and maintaining operational and system level documentation. Must be able to apply software development lifecycle process (SDLC) concepts and have a proven track record of delivering solid, robust applications, and can generate and maintain documentation in a medical regulated industry.
  • Implementing design specifications, system flow diagrams, documentation.
  • Verifying and validating software in a revision-controlled environment, to include test cases, protocol execution and report writing
• Becoming a subject matter expert on legacy software by making enhancements, complying with standards, and meeting stringent hardware performance requirements.
• Troubleshooting, investigating, and analyzing software bugs and system performance.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
• Five (5) years programming experience with Visual Studio (VB, C#..) and SQL in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution
• Strong skills in SDLC and documentation for medical (requirements generation, software design reviews, verification\validation (IQ\OQ\PQ), traceability matrix...)
• Strong system interaction understanding (software, hardware, test...)
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
• Detailed-oriented documentation and communication
• Ability to quickly learn and apply new tools and technologies
• Ability to take individual initiative and accountability for assignments
• Ability to meet project plan timelines and produce a high-quality product
• Strong conceptualization, analytical, and logic skills
• Works well in a collaborative environment
• Experience with PLC programming OR desire to learn as a growth opportunity
• Experience working in a regulated environment (ISO 13485, ISO 9001...)
