Project Scientist - Dry Lab - Department of Neurosurgery - Butte Lab

Serving in a Data Scientist capacity, our Project Scientist will lead the effort in developing classification algorithms and validating clinical trials for cutting-edge medical imaging systems. The job will provide a unique opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team involving optical engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, biomedical engineers as well as surgeons, pathologists, and other medical personnel. You will be involved in the development and possible commercialization of a novel medical device technology. Interest or experience in a start-up environment with an entrepreneurial spirit is highly desired. The position will provide experience as a part of a highly focused team on a broad array of technologies. In addition, the position will also offer experience with other technicians, with clinical trials, collecting clinical data, and play a crucial part in developing clinical protocols. Experience or aptitude to work with various hardware environments is essential, with strong aptitude for solving complex problems. Ordinarily, the Project Scientist title will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series. The position will provide opportunity to work on medical technology with far reaching and immediate impact on patients' lives. Specifically, our Project Scientist will drive the effort to evaluate and collect clinical data using a novel experimental imaging technology. Will devise, explore, and develop classification algorithms (e.g. machine learning) to effectively identify cancer from complex multispectral time-domain data. Must understand and be aware of potential pitfalls in the development of classification algorithms. Assist in implementing the classification algorithm in the clinical system. Assist in regulatory filing and the transfer of algorithms, technology, results to third party contract manufacturers. Develop understanding of the clinical implementation of the novel technology in the context of the standard of care. You will play a crucial role on a team developing a clinical protocol for validating clinical performance. Research existing unmet clinical needs in surgery of select cancers. Our Project Scientists are not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. Educational requirements:
