This is a Lead Medical Technician, position located at Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. The primary purpose of this position is to lead the work of other medical technicians performing blood collection procedures by venipuncture techniques. The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) was formed in 1997 as a result of the merger of the Tuskegee and Montgomery medical centers and includes community-based outpatient clinics in Columbus, GA Columbus Clinic, Dothan, AL Dothan Mental Health Clinic and Dothan, Fort Benning, GA Ft. Benning VA Clinic, GA), Montgomery, AL Montgomery VA Clinic, Monroeville, AL VA Outpatient Clinic Monroeville (CBOC), and Fort Rucker, AL Wiregrass CBOC. CAVHCS serves more than 134,000 veterans in 43 counties of Southeastern Alabama and West Georgia. This position is located in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) of Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS), this vacancy have one position located at the Montgomery campus. The incumbent also performs the work similar to duties as identified below: Distributing and balancing the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization, assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assures that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Keeping in touch with the status and progress of work, and make day- to- day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly. Estimating and reporting on expected time of completion of work, and maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested. Instructing employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies. Providing on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Maintaining a current knowledge and answer questions of other employees on procedures policies, directives, etc. and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up. Checking on work in progress or spot checks work not requiring review and reviews completed work to see that supervisor's instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met. Amending or rejecting work not meeting established standards; refers to supervisor questions or matters not covered by standards and problems in meeting performance standards. Monitoring work conditions such as seating, ventilation, lighting, safety, etc. Approving leave for a few hours or for emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned.
