The Nurse Practitioner will provide primary medical care, including women's health, urgent care and occupational and travel medicine, to Health Sciences Students at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The incumbent will work to provide and document office based care in a busy office environment that emphasizes collaboration with the patient in the provision of high quality, evidence based medical care. Inherent in this role is independence and autonomy of practice within the framework of established guidelines. Position works Monday through Friday only, but with a varied schedule, including several days from 11am to 7pm, to meet the scheduling needs of the health service.
Provide direct primary health care, including women's health services, urgent care and occupational and travel medicine to Health Sciences students.
Conduct focused health history and performs physical examinations as indicated by patient's reason for visit.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
Identify and manage common-health problems, both acute and chronic in accordance with approved guidelines.
Prescribe a variety of modalities to treat illness and meet wellness needs including, but not limited to medications, nutrition, exercise, and traditional nursing treatment.
Work collaboratively with health service staff in planning ongoing care and making referrals to other disciplines as indicated.
Evaluate and document patients' responses to the plan of care in the electronic health record.
Participate in the development, review and revision of nurse practitioner practice guidelines and development of standards, patient care policies, and clinical procedures and audit peer practice to assure overall quality of patient care.
Prescribe pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and other treatment appropriate to the medical condition and in accordance with State Regulations.
Care will be provided in accordance with best practices in a manner which models for students the care to which they should aspire.
Clinical care will be provided in an interpersonally and culturally sensitive manner.
Care will be documented as prescribed by law and in accordance with best practices.
Participate in continuous quality improvement.
Participate in the development of SHS policies and procedures, particularly those affecting clinical care.
Participate in the after-hours emergency on-call service.
Participate in academic inquiry and research according to identified interests and SHS clinical issues.
Master's Degree in Nursing.
Current unrestricted license in New York as a Nurse Practitioner.
Certification as Adult Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner.
Current DEA License.
Minimum of 3 years' experience providing direct clinical services in an ambulatory care setting.
Prior college health experience preferred but not required.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
