What You Will Do:
You will be an integral member of Abbott's global Corporate Economics team, supporting all Abbott divisions and the Executive team. We are looking for a creative thinker who can apply economic and financial principles to help link the external environment with internal performance, supporting business needs and opportunities. A successful candidate is recognized for their knowledge of economics and an understanding of how theory applies in a business environment.
The Economist will work on a variety of projects that support company planning, economic forecasting, pricing, and risk management while operating within the framework of established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Specific tasks may include:
Providing timely analysis of underlying economic and industry trends for key markets
Researching current economic and policy events that impact Abbott's markets
Managing monthly country risk reporting for financial markets and geopolitical economic risk
Tracking and reporting leading indicators for both the executive team and business divisions
Performing statistical and econometric analysis including macroeconomic and industry forecasting
Contributing to strategic reports through qualitative research and quantitative analysis
Assisting with managing department data and maintaining the data infrastructure
What You Will Bring
A successful candidate possesses either a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Economics and can demonstrate an understanding of economic theory and application. Prior work experience that combines qualitative analysis with econometric analysis is strongly preferred. Candidates need to be eligible to work in the U.S. without Abbott sponsorship.
In addition, a successful candidate should possess the following skills and characteristics
A strong interest in the global economy, global healthcare concerns, and financial markets
Strong written skills, including the ability to effectively communicate economic concepts and themes to a general business audience
A self-starter with curiosity and the desire to develop their skill set
The ability to critically review and analyze external reports and data, and to summarize key information into clear and concise viewpoints
Experience working with economic and financial market data from multiple data sources
Strong knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint; experience with econometric analysis in a platform such as EViews, Stata, or R (or a desire to learn more!)
Ability to deal with ambiguity while contributing to management level requests
