The EMS Intake Liaison has the primary responsibility of facilitating the throughput of incoming EMS at an emergency department level. This position will be responsible for assuring that EMS call reports are taken accurately and in a timely matter, and activating appropriate prehospital activations according to current hospital criteria. This position will be responsible for the assistance of offloading EMS patients, allowing the crew to return to service in a timely manner, while alleviating the accepting RN by assisting with the intake of the patient.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Builds relationships with EMS and law enforcement personnel transporting patients to the emergency department
Receives and documents EMS call reports, notifies charge RN of incoming patient, and appropriately enters incoming EMS into ED software application
Intakes all EMS patients by directing EMS to assigned ED location, assists with offloading or patient, inputs patient demographics and chief complaint into ED software application, and/or obtains first set vitals
Assures that all items utilized by EMS are stocked to par and well-functioning
Maintains a presentable EMS bay, vestibule, lounge, and other high traffic EMS areas
Transports appropriate stretcher to helicopter pad when receiving air medical patients, escorts air medical team to the appropriate location
Provides EMS personnel with patient facesheet if needed by crew
Scans all necessary EMS documentation into patient’s medical record
Provides EMS with patient follow-ups if asked by transporting crew
Assists with turning of ED rooms to facilitate with patient flow
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
ACLS and PALS preferred.
Effective written and oral communications. Ability to clearly communicate with other healthcare providers.
Familiar with computer programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. and EMR documentation software used for documentation in the patients record.
Must be team oriented with the ability to work efficiently and effectively with others.
Ability to multi-task and make sound decisions in critical situation.
Ability to troubleshoot and determine resolution.
Ability to effectively delegate workloads.
Bilingual Spanish speaking a plus.
