Stryker is hiring a Principal Engineer, R&D Advanced Technologies & Innovation to be located in Fremont, California.
What you will do:
As a Principal Engineer, R&D Advanced Technologies & Innovation, you will be responsible for developing products and procedures, creating new business opportunities for Stryker Neurovascular. You will research medical conditions to determine the current state of treatment and the related medical device market. You will work with the team to solve problems and create treatment options and medical device product designs. You will collaborate with team members and external partners on multiple projects.
Additional responsibilities include:
Explore to find unmet needs and describe in the simplest terms
Gather and expand knowledge of technologies and emerging company products that can be leveraged to enable new treatments
Perform testing to determine if concept or external company devices live up to the proposed capability
Creativity and Analytical Skills
Identify and prioritize technical risks and develop innovative solutions to achieve product and clinical goals
Contribute ideas to establish and expand intellectual property
Research and analyze design inputs such as customer requests and marketing specifications to determine product concept feasibility
Communication and Collaboration
In collaboration with Marketing and Clinical groups, establish a detailed understanding of user needs and requirements; collect and incubate design solutions with a customer-centered mindset.
Work with vendors and contract resources to develop new product concept prototypes and develop new testing capabilities
Demonstrate advanced technical and clinical competence to attend cases and report back/apply learnings from observations; meet doctors to observe clinical cases and determine product needs

What you will need:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Masters or PhD a plus; Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical or related.
8+ years of medical device development experience.
Extensive demonstration of engineering principles and independent application skills; deep expertise in at least one area of medical device development.
Hands-on experience building medical devices, preferably early-stage prototypes; knowledgeable of many processes used in medical device manufacturing.
