This position will be responsible for:
Under the direct supervision the PI and senior staff, developing, refining and comparing technological solutions to clinical problems. Such solutions may comprise mechanical design, electromechanical design, electronic design and microprocessor control. Example solutions include imaging systems, medical robots, surgical tools and implantable devices.
Preparing designs using software packages.
Creating prototypes from designs using machine tools, 3D printing, molding, welding and other manufacturing processes.
Conducting engineering analyses using the technical software.
Writing and modifying software to control and monitor medical robots and devices.
Performing bench testing and calibration of prototypes to evaluate effectiveness and robustness.
Collaborating with lab staff, clinicians and statisticians to design and write up experiments and protocols.
Performing statistical analysis of experimental results.
Proposing and implementing modifications to improve the performance of devices.
Preparing reports for presentation at technical conferences and for publication in scholarly journals.
To qualify, you must have:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics or a related technical field. No previous work experience required, but must demonstrate related school work.
The ability to design, compare and implement creative technical solutions that address important clinical needs.
The ability to fabricate mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with both medical and engineering personnel as well as vendors.
The ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies.
The ability and willingness to work closely with animals including pigs, sheep, rabbits and rats.
During a public health emergency, individuals in this role may be expected to take on additional duties to respond to organizational needs
