Our location in Chicago currently has an opportunity for a Sr. Data Engineer.
Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott's Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.
Serves as technical expert to develop, test and implement significant new BI focused functionality, or operational improvements or devises new approaches to Business Intelligence problems at the division/business unit.
Work with user groups to identify and solve business problems with all available technology including hardware, software, databases, and peripherals.
Conduct investigation activity/research and give technical advice to the adoption or integration of new technologies and their business impact.
Assumes leadership role for implementation activities; coordinating implementation with other parts of the division/BU and provides routine status of activities to Project Manager or direct supervisor.
Review, validate & enhance design, conduct performance monitoring and capacity planning; install, test and upgrade releases and associated products.
In specialized systems (ie. Big Data) effectively set options to change the way the program works (configuration responsibilities).
Directs the work of technical, programming support and less experienced staff. Participates in the technical evaluation of assigned staff and in the identification of development needs. Draws on the expertise of technical resources within Abbott and outside vendors.
Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
Deploys solutions to meet local requirements within a template approach and with global standards to facilitate global business intelligence and business process optimization in a cost effective way.
Responsible for all applications hosted on the Big Data Platform as well as the integration with up and downstream systems
Work in teams with 3-7 employees/contractors, direct/indirect at varying levels of Application Technology. Individual contributors to deliver on the roadmap
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related discipline.
6+ years of Business Intelligence & Analytics experience with a minimum 4 years with Big Data platforms as Data Engineer.
Demonstrated hand on expertise in the following programing languages: Python, Shell and SQL. Experience in other programing languages is a plus (Scala or Java)
Experience in at least one of the top cloud platforms Azure, GCP or AWS. (Microsoft Azure is the preferred cloud platform)
Deep experience (3+ years) designing and implementing:
Version control: Git-Hub
Continuous integration: DevOps solutions
Security: ISO 27 series or security information management
Operating system: UNIX
Demonstrated hand on expertise of Data Engineering Process ETL-ELT (building data pipelines) with Python and Apache Spark. (Working with Apache Spark with Scala is a plus).
Demonstrated hand on expertise of Data Ingestion (unstructured, semi-structured and structured) from different sources (i.e, Web API, Databases, Flat Files, etc.).
Experience across all aspects of project life-cycle through multiple global implementations.
Working knowledge of orchestration tools like Microsoft DataFactory.
Working knowledge of Data Warehouse Solutions like Microsoft SQLWareHouse (Synapse).
