The Head, Product Surveillance Analytics will lead a small team of data scientists and engineers to deliver data science solutions. The Head, Product Surveillance Analytics will perform analytics to monitor the safety of Abbott medical devices, including monitoring large patient populations, identifying early safety signals, comparing performance with competition, integrating with other surveillance groups within Abbott, and providing automation for the surviellance. He or she will be responsible for working on complex analytics problems in the field of life-saving implantable medical devices. He or she will use machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical modeling, data mining, and visualization techniques to provide analytics solutions to a wide range of challenging projects. As a key leader on the team, the candidate will develop solutions to curate and analyze large quantities of medical data. The candidate will work on projects that provide solutions to internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams in India and the US. He or she will present solutions and insights in concise and effective manner to technical and non-technical audiences.
2. Knowledge, Experience and Education:
Education: Master's degree
Years of experience, both overall and any industry-specific experience needed:
Minimum overall 10 years of working experience
Minimum 8 years working experience in business/digital/analytics/information technology
Other qualifications/certifications:Institutional/Government business experience
In-depth knowledge of contemporary machine learning, pattern recognition and data-mining techniques.
Analytical skills with a solid foundation in programming (R, SAS, Python, SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL) and data/database design
Strong oral and written communication skills
Prior experience or working knowledge with one or more of the following tools and technologies: Spark, Clojure, Hive, Pig, Redshift
Experience with big-data architecture, operating systems and tools for big-data analytics
Experience in a life sciences environment a plus
Team development, coaching, hiring Technical oversight of programs - reviewing analysis plans, keeping track of timelines, reviewing output of analyses, providing guidance to the team on next steps Understanding and setting user requirements Understanding and curating data sets available for analysis Building predictive models and doing other advanced analytics Packaging and presenting information in presentations
Principle Challenges Faces complex problems and must develop the best solution or application from many alternatives
Develop a prototype dashboard for predicting enrollment speed in a clinical trial.
Solution: figure out typical enrollment criteria for clinical trials, determine available and suitable data sets, assign most appropriate team to work on this project, monitor progress, report back to US with updates and iterations.
