We are currently seeking an experienced Laboratory Technologist IVEducationSpecialist- to join our 53 rd Street OutpatientLaboratory .
Coordinate the education program in the laboratory to include students, research scientists, and current staff.
Orient trainees and discuss the schedule. Verify that all preliminary paperwork, passwords, safety and HIPAA trainings are completed.
Prepare schedules with required elements of teaching for all levels of trainees in the various laboratory sections, coordinating the activities with section supervisors and senior staff.
Instruct/train trainees (new technologists and students) in lab procedures and theory.
Direct trainees to appropriate resources (SOP, operations manuals, etc.).
Oversee collection of training materials (slides, cases, etc.).
Monitor the trainees progress and ensures the trainings meet the objectives and are properly documented where required.
Provide feedback to education coordinator on progress of students and fellows.
Work with student staff educators to evaluate performances, solicit feedback and provide input for curriculum and evaluation mechanisms. Provides performance documentation as required.
Work with laboratory management to design and implement an ongoing continuing education program for all levels of laboratory staff.
Manage Continuing Education (CE) and appropriate professional development activities.
Ensure logistics for CE for laboratory (e.g. teaching materials, rooms, meeting reminders).
Identify and assign speakers for instruction.
Keep up to date on all education requirements and resources. Provide resources on an ongoing basis.
Coordinate and participates in recruitment activities; prepare appropriate materials; generate interest in lab medicine profession and directs candidates to appropriate resources.
Design curriculum for technologist development; ensure it remains current and consistent with program requirements.
Document performance and maintains records; provide feedback to reinforce/improve performance; provide remedial training, when indicated.
Act as mentor for new staff after initial training.
Interpret and apply current regulations. Assure compliance with new/applicable regulations.
Manage Education aspect of inspections.
Collaborate with program directors to identify learning goals, requirements, and expectations.
Participate in CE and Professional Development (PD) beyond lab specialty.
Excellent with interpersonal skills
Able to manage multiple activities and projects and meet strict timelines and deadlines.
Proficient in using Cerner LIS and its associated applications
Skilled in the MS Office Suite of applications
Bachelor's degree (Medical Technology, Biology, or Clinical Laboratory Sciences) required
Extensive bench level experience in Hematology,Urinalysis, Chemistry, and other lab areas.
6+ years of experience or 4+ years of experience with a Masters Degree required
Varying shifts between 6:30 AM - 6:30 PM, Monday - Friday
