Our location in Des Plaines, IL currently has an opportunity for a Manager, Market Insights. The Manager, Market Insights will manage market analytics to guide business decisions. Provide external market and competitive perspective needed for the development of optimal strategic direction. This position manages the provision of market trends, competitive awareness, strategic insights and recommendations to the commercial and executive teams via ethical and legal market analytics and competitive intelligence.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Proactively identify knowledge gaps around market trends and competitive activity in context of current business needs, recommending and aligning management to closing these knowledge gaps. Exhibit a deep knowledge and understanding of functional areas and their market insight needs.
- Align and execute market insights plans in partnership with multi-functional teams:
- Works collaboratively with internal partners to ensure business issues are translated into specific research/analytic questions with clear business impact.
- Identifies internal sources, secondary data analysis that is appropriate to address business issue; interpret research findings and synthesize into actionable business insights and recommendations.
- Develop data modeling and analytical tools to ensure quick collation of data for delivery of market data analytics for multiple ad hoc requests, corporate reporting & commercial training needs.
- Ensure market insights are broadly communicated, understood and acted upon, especially for commercial and executive teams. Articulate market dynamics and performance, competitor behavior on a regular basis, keeping the organization informed of any significant market events and competitor activity as they occur.
- Facilitate and champion the adoption of market and competitive intelligence tools and techniques to ensure greater external awareness within the organization.
- Manage relevant IT tools as required, managing data uploads, accessibility, training, communication and general support.
- Develop insights relating to the capabilities and intentions of competitors, market trends and potential future opportunities/threats to the business.
- Mentor, coach and develop a CI Community from marketing and sales to ensure ongoing collection of market & competitive data with local & global context.
- Owner of all market data sources, models and analytics. Ensures alignment on key assumptions, accuracy and speed in all data related interactions.
- Travel at approximately 10-15%, domestically and internationally.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING
Required
- Bachelor's Degree is required.
- 7+ years' experience in related industry, with 3-5 years progressive experience in the healthcare industry with an understanding of laboratory diagnostics market and competitive industry dynamics.
- Demonstrated examples of personal leadership leveraging market insights/analytics to develop strategy and commercial plans.
- Strong influencing skills combined with the ability to work effectively with all levels of business team management.
- Strong analytical skills; familiar and able to analyze secondary data, building in assumptions and modeling when full data is unavailable.
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Knows modeling and forecasting.
- Basic SQL skills.
- Proven ability to integrate data from different data sources to provide clarity and direction to multi-functional team.
- Experience analyzing and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative information, identifying implications and observing patterns, making correct inferences, drawing conclusions, explaining facts, data, or information to evaluate competitors' products/services, strategic direction, and core competencies utilizing a wide variety of resources.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
- Ability to build long-term relationships with internal and external customers by understanding their current and future needs; building networks and strong working relationships with others.
- Ability to identify intelligence needs through interaction with Global and Area marketing and personal observation of emerging trends and issues that have the potential to significantly impact the business.
- Demonstrated agility in managing multiple priorities and projects in a complex environment.
- Proven sensitivity towards confidentiality and understanding of all requirements and corporate policies and guidelines that impact legal and ethical conduct.
- Self-motivated and autonomous professional with strong customer service and team orientation skills.
Preferred
- MBA is preferred.
- Knowledge of Domo software is a plus.
- Working knowledge of technical market research skills, and having managed qualitative, quantitative research.
- Experience in competitive intelligence, knowledge management or market research.
- Cross-functional team experience.
- Experience working for a global organization preferred.
- Professional certification/accreditation a plus (e.g. MT/CAP/PRC etc.).
