Full-Time Teaching Faculty Position in Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the Armour College of Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track faculty position to support activities in undergraduate and graduate teaching and education. Candidates are sought at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level. The main responsibility is teaching undergraduate courses and graduate courses required for the BME Bachelors, Masters and PhD programs. Additional responsibilities will include assisting the department with assessment and accreditation of its undergraduate and graduate programs. The expected start date is August 1, 2022.

Teaching faculty members in the BME department and Armour College of Engineering are expected to be recognized as experts in their field; committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring; active in their professional communities; active in departmental service through undergraduate and graduate academic advising, mentoring student organizations, supervising senior design projects, and maintaining and modernizing undergraduate biomedical instrumentation, biomedical electronics, biofluid, and physiology laboratories. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching and service endeavors. At the time of appointment, applicants must hold an earned doctorate in biomedical engineering/bioengineering or a related field.

The Armour College of Engineering is home to five departments, emphasizes a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary research by faculty and students, and is committed to inclusive excellence in undergraduate, graduate, and professional education. The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Illinois Tech offers a distinctive education and unique research program focused on using science and technology to address current and emerging human health problems. Current degree programs in BME include: bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in three areas of specialization (tracks)—cell and tissue engineering, neural engineering, medical imaging—master of computational engineering (biomedicine track), master of engineering in biomedical engineering, master of science in biomedical data science and modeling, master of science in medical devices and biomaterials, master of science with biomedical engineering (with thesis); doctor of philosophy in biomedical engineering.
