The following are the requirements for appointment as a Medical Technologist (MT) in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). These requirements apply to all VHA MTs in the General Schedule (GS)-644 series. In the health care community, MTs are generally referred to as "medical laboratory scientists (MLS) or clinical laboratory scientists (CLS)," and these terms are considered to be synonymous where stated in this qualification standard. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
