The Human Factors Practice is seeking Scientists in multiple Exponent offices, including:
Los Angeles, CA
In the Scientist role you will work as part of a team to consult on human performance and human factors issues related to a wide variety of topics including driver, operator, and pedestrian behavior; pedestrian trips and falls; environment navigation; traffic safety; occupational work and safety; and product interaction for consumer electronics, medical devices, and industrial equipment manufacturers.
The ideal candidate for this position possesses a strong basic scientific background in the foundations of cognition, perception, and human decision-making. Specific responsibilities and skills vary by office.
You will be responsible for:
Participating in a range of consulting activities that involve analyzing human perceptual, cognitive, and response capabilities and limitations in accidents and the prevention of accidents
Conducting hands on inspections and analyzing human performance as it relates to vehicles, roadways, machinery, and industrial and consumer equipment to investigate accidents and injuries
Managing, planning, and conducting human performance studies and tests in a range of environments
Participating in the design and evaluation of warnings and safety information
Working on multi-disciplinary projects and providing case management, data processing, and other project support
Conducting research to obtain and review technical data, scientific literature, and standards
Writing and editing technical reports and literature reviews
Providing project management for multiple projects at a given time, including managing budgets and deadlines; managing project teams; and performing support tasks for team members
Developing client contacts
You will have the following skills and qualifications:
(Bellevue, WA Only) M.S., M.A., or Ph.D. in Human Factors, Engineering Psychology, Experimental, Developmental, Industrial, or Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Neuroscience, Neuroscience, Neuromechanics, Kinesiology, or other related disciplines
Ph.D. in Human Factors, Engineering Psychology, Experimental, Developmental, Industrial, or Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Neuroscience, Neuroscience, Neuromechanics, Kinesiology, or other related disciplines
Solid foundation in science of cognition, perception, and human decision making
Experience leading multiple scientific studies from start (i.e., design) to finish (i.e., communicating your results)
Strong record demonstrating your ability to design behavioral studies using a variety of human subjects and database research methods (e.g., survey, experimental, quasi-experimental, case study)
Substantial record (publications, presentations) of research in human performance
Superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
Proficiency in statistics and the use of basic statistics software (e.g., R, MATLAB, Excel, SPSS, SAS etc.)
