UW Medicine Supply Chain currently has an outstanding opportunity for a DIRECTOR, VALUE ANALYSIS AND CLINICAL INTEGRATION.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Value Analysis and Clinical Integration Director is accountable to the System Director, Strategic Sourcing and Value Analysis of UW Medicine, and has responsibility for the following:
Lead a team of Value Analysis Portfolio Managers, each of which supports a CPSI (Clinical Products & Smart Innovation) clinical Core Group, as well as purchased services. Responsible for all Value Analysis work across the Clinical Operations of UW Medicine; Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Montlake, Northwest Campus, Valley Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, and Airlift Northwest. Lead the team in identifying opportunities for cost savings related to product standardization and improved product utilization by appropriately assisting in the selection, evaluation, monitoring, and implementation of cost-effective products within the Clinical Operations of UW Medicine. Partner with the Medical Director of CPSI and co-chair the CPSI Oversight Committee. Share accountability for collaborative development, integration, implementation, and optimization of clinical resource consumption (medical supplies, technologies, devices, and purchased services) for the purpose of systematic elimination of non-value add products and services. Provide administrative and infrastructure leadership of the Value Analysis process, which includes CPSI oversight committee (and respective Core Groups and subcommittees). Through the CPSI Oversight Committee and the Core groups, work with the Medical Director of CPSI, key physicians, clinicians, and Supply Chain teams across the health system to both improve the quality and total cost of care. Support strategic initiatives and partner with UW Medicine’s GPO to ensure effective, results-oriented project outcomes, including the implementation of benchmarking findings, assessments, and other initiatives. Lead and help facilitate process improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency gains across value analysis.
Leadership & Fiscal Management: Serve as a liaison between the clinical operations of UW Medicine departments, medical staff, nursing, and the GPO to ensure cost effective utilization of products, services, including but not limited to medical surgical supplies, and capital equipment. Oversee and support the work of the Value Analysis Portfolio Managers. Attend and participate in GPO Value Analysis related activities. Maintain record of documented cost savings and prepare monthly reports of system-wide and entity-specific expense reduction activities achieved through the value analysis process and CPSI initiatives. Perform cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness, cost-minimization, and cost-efficiency analysis, verifying accuracy and completeness of all cost analysis that may impact product-related expenditure. Support the implementation and adoption of a tool to manage new product/technology requests. Develop and ensure compliance with policy and procedure related to use of the tool. Develop and document policies related to vendor management. Oversee Technology Assessment (TA) criteria and rigor within the CPSI framework. Ensure acceptable TA standards are established for review of literature related to practice approaches, medical devices, medical equipment, and clinical purchased services being evaluated by the committee structure. Ensure an adequate pipeline of Value Analysis & CPSI initiatives to achieve the system’s cost reduction targets while maintaining or improving the quality of care delivered across the health system. Work with GPO and other analytic resources to establish robust reporting of contract compliance and comparative performance for the practicing clinicians in terms of cost and quality outcomes. Represent organization at national level by attending and speaking at appropriate conferences and networking with other leaders in the field Keep up to date on current clinical, operational and supply chain trends to educate both clinical and administrative stakeholders
Staff Management: Supervise and coach the Value Analysis team. Conduct annual and on-going performance reviews in coordination with the Strategic Sourcing Director. Establish and communicate individual goals to Value Analysis team. Implement disciplinary action as appropriate. Participates in the recruitment/hiring process. Supervise the training/orientation of Value Analysis team. Place high priority on staff development specifically regarding cost/trend and standardization analysis and tools; use goal setting and performance recognition techniques; use reporting tools to evaluate/improve individual/department performance and foster professional growth. Facilitate staff meetings, inter-office communications and resolve conflicts. Analyze potential problems and/or conflicts with users and suppliers and develop resolutions. Act as the prime resource to Value Analysis staff with problem resolution. Provide leadership and guidance to ensure that supply chain activities are cost effective and meet customer's expectations. Demonstrate the ability within a team assignment to take a lead role in interpreting and applying resolution techniques; management of diversity in the workplace; effective communication and active listening skills, consensus-building and problem resolution practices in order to achieve team goals. Participate as a member of the varied hospital and medical center committees; make public presentations and represent UW Medicine on associations and committees as requested and approved by the System Director of Strategic Sourcing and Value Analysis. Initiate studies for new or alternative products to ensure maximum effectiveness. Ensure that all trials and evaluations are unbiased and conducted in a professional manner. Partner with UW Medicine management to pursue opportunities for reduction of expenses in equipment, supplies and service areas for all aspects of the supply chain. Deliver cost savings and value maximization to the total cost of ownership of equipment, supplies and services while fulfilling the mission of the organization. Ensure appropriate internal control processes are in place for Value Analysis functions and are promulgated throughout the enterprise
Process Improvement and Program Management: Create a culture within Value Analysis of commitment to impeccable customer service, responding to and handling customer concerns related to all aspects of Value Analysis activities. Implement and employ relevant performance and quality metrics for procurement cycle activities with a focus on process improvement, service enhancement and improved automation. Demonstrate creativity, imagination, initiative, and good judgment in developing, organizing, and implementing ideas and programs.
Information Management: Develop and implement effective monitoring systems to assure that standards and performance objectives are met; laws, rules, regulations, and policies are followed in meeting the goals of UW Medicine.

Facilitates and leads system and entity specific projects related to UW Medicine Supply Chain process improvement, enhanced quality, and cost savings projects across UW Medicine including; Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics. Manage projects as assigned. Lead process improvement efforts as assigned. Leads project teams of non direct reports conisting of Supply Chain staff and stakeholders, direct, and manage non-labor contracting for UW Medicine Clinical Operations. Works closely with other members of the UW Medicine Supply Chain Leadership team to ensure that projects are selected and managed in the best overall interests of UW Medicine
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and coach the Value Analysis team. Interviews, hires, conduct performance evaluations, and trains staff under his/her area of responsibility
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field. Six to eight years of experience in healthcare supply chain management/leadership experience within a medium to large medical center, with demonstrated value analysis expertise
A combination of equivalent educaton and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
