Position Description
The Schulich School of Engineering, at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching) in the area of Engineering Design in Biomedical Engineering, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023.
Position Description:
The main responsibility of the Assistant Professor (Teaching) faculty position is teaching. Course assignments may be at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with primary emphasis on undergraduate biomedical engineering courses and related labs, as well as Capstone Design advising. Core needs in the program include medical devices, biomedical engineering design, and systems, signals, sensors, instrumentation hardware. An important component will be incorporating elements from across multiple disciplines with a focus on collaborative, experiential problem solving. Additionally, the ability to teach other engineering subjects will be considered an asset.
The Assistant Professor (Teaching) is expected to develop scholarship in engineering education. The Schulich School of Engineering has a strong teaching faculty presence. The Assistant Professor (Teaching) will develop course content and prepare lectures and other course delivery material, including e-learning, develop laboratory modules for biomedical engineering courses; perform service to the department, faculty, university, and the profession, and may conduct or assist on research projects and contribute to achieving equitable, diverse, inclusive and accessible employment practices and workplaces. In alignment with the University of Calgary's strategic vision, and in support of its strategic priorities of leadership, teaching and research integration, the successful applicant will actively contribute to teaching and curriculum development.
The successful applicant will be recruited through the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering. Applicants must have earned, or be near completing a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or equivalent, and must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) (https://www.apega.ca/). Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning and a desire to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom.
