Implements and monitors quality management activities. Performs the full range of supervisory duties in each of the CORE Lab sections. Implements and maintains an inventory program to ensure adequate supplies within quality control and administrative guidelines. Works as generalist in all CORE laboratory sections in emergent situations during scheduled tour of duty as well as on off shifts. Serves as backup Laboratory Manager. Reviews all the quality control, instrument maintenance, temperature log records, analyte linearities, microscope and centrifuge maintenance, timer checks, rejected specimen and action logs, Blood Gas maintenance and quality control records, and results of errors, and notifies attending physicians as appropriate. Delegates maintenance or recording duties to personnel as needed to assure that appropriate actions are taken to meet regulations. Responsible for tracking Quality management monitors in the laboratory and printing reports of monitors. Collaborates with the Lab Manager and Chief of P&LMS on presentation of monitors to the appropriate committees. Files incident reports on critical results that are not called within the allotted time period. Responsible for printing and reviewing quality controls monthly. Works with the Lead Medical Technologist on trending of data and resolutions of any quality control issues for their section. Provides technical guidance to technicians/technologists when quality control or instrument problems occur. Assures that all employees under his/her technical supervision are aware of and abide by the appropriate hospital and laboratory safety regulations. Takes responsibility for the quality control program for the Laboratory, assures that appropriate records are maintained, and investigates complaints from the hospital staff concerning questionable results.
