The Department of Biomedical Engineering (https://bme.osu.edu) at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of extracellular vesicle (EV)based platforms for drug delivery in womens health. The research area must complement the current research portfolio. This position will start as early as Fall 2026.
Position Overview
We invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program, mentor trainees at all levels, and contribute to the teaching mission of the department and its educational programs. We seek a candidate in the area of extracellular vesicle (EV)based platforms for womens health; applicants whose research spans maternalfetal EV communication, vaginal and gut microbiomederived EVs, vaginal drug delivery systems, and the translation of EV biology into therapeutic applications will be especially competitive. Candidates for the Associate Professor rank should demonstrate a strong record of sustained extramural funding, scholarly productivity, commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring, and leadership in collaborative, interdisciplinary research.
Performance Objectives
Establish and lead an innovative, independent research program.
Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees.
Teach undergraduate engineering courses and courses aligned with the candidate's expertise at undergraduate and graduate level.
Collaborate with faculty across disciplines such as womens health, drug delivery, microbiome science, and nanomedicine.
Contribute to service at the department, college, and university levels.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
Ph.D., M.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent degree in Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Reproductive Biology, Microbiology, or related fields.
Demonstrated research expertise in extracellular vesicles (EVs) for womens health including vaginal drug delivery and maternal and fetal health applications.
Evidence of commitment to teaching, mentorship, and advancing excellence in academia.
Evidence of impactful research supported by a strong record of high-impact publications.
The candidate should demonstrate leadership and the ability to collaborate effectively in an academic setting.
Evidence (Associate Professor) or potential (Assistant Professor) for sustained extramural funding.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, with a focus on working constructively, decisively, and collegially with both external and internal colleagues and interdisciplinary teams.
Desired (Associate Professor):
Established national reputation and leadership in extracellular vesicle (EV) research, womens health, or vaginal drug delivery.
Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary research initiatives.
Proven track record of securing substantial external funding.
Evidence of impact in student instruction and mentoring
Evidence of effectively sharing ideas, continuously learning, and displaying innovative thinking.
Evidence of translation of research activities into clinical application.

Your research questions and their importance; how your research contributes to your field.
Research plan and future research directions.
Identify potential collaborations and funding sources.
Broader impacts of your research on womens health (the potential to benefit society and contribute to the achievement of specific, desired societal outcomes)
Plan for student engagement in your research program.

Sarah Ross Soter Womens Health Research Program at Ohio State
The Sarah Ross Soter Womens Health Research Program (SWHRP) aims to close gaps in womens health. SWHRP brings together an interdisciplinary team to accelerate research and translate findings into clinical trials and care, focusing on pregnancy, cancer, cardiovascular/metabolic disease, aging, and the roles of stress, immune system/microbiome, and prevention.
